Housing seeks to remedy chronic squatting problem

Newsday Newspaper

The Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has approximately 90,000 applications for housing, with over 60% citing the East West Corridor as the preferred place of residence.

The HDC is continuing construction of Vieux Fort - a housing development in Fort George, where over 140 families will realise their home ownership dreams.  This is part of the HDC's ongoing housing programme which is geared toward alleviating the chronic shortage in the Port of Spain area.

The site which has been earmarked for residential development for some time, is owned by the Port of Spain City Corporation and is being developed with approvals from all relevant state agencies.  Work on the site commenced on 16th December 2006 and is scheduled for completion in December 2007.
