Housing seeks to remedy chronic squatting problem

There are currently over 70,000 housing applications to the Ministry of Housing and its implementation agency, the Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

WHO CAN APPLY?                                       

§               Any resident citizen of Trinidad and Tobago.

§               21 years and over.

§               Who does not wholly or partly own a house or property.

§               And has a steady, reliable income.

 

HOW ARE HOUSES ALLOCATED?

§               75% Reserved For Public Applicants through the random lottery system.

§               10% reserved for the Joint Protective Services – Police, Army, Prisons and

                        Fire Services.

§               15% to deal with Special Emergency Cases, Senior Citizens and

         Physically Challenged Persons.

 

 WHAT ARE MY HOME OWNERSHIP OPTIONS?

Qualifying for a mortgage is the first step to homeownership.

§                Rental accommodation is available for persons who do not qualify for a

          mortgage, but have a steady income.

§                Rent to own options are also available, whereby past rental payments are

applied as a deposit payment toward the purchase price and further rental income converted into mortgage payments.
