East Side Plaza is located within the metropolitan district of East Port of Spain between George and Charlotte Streets on the site of the old Eastern Market. It is strategically situated within the geographic area earmarked for urban regeneration by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. It was established in February, 1991 primarily to:
- Alleviate the challenges associated with the management of roadside vending; and,
- Provide an avenue for the establishment and development of an entrepreneurial spirit among nationals.
The Plaza which is managed by a Board has approximately 143 tenants engaged in various entrepreneurial activity ranging from local craft, spices and confectionery items, service type businesses such as tailors/seamstresses, hairdressers, nail technicians, book stores, travel agency services to electronic and optic repair shops, retail clothing, beauty products, market produce, food court and herbal shops.
To create a space for a mix of micro and traditional businesses so as to expand entrepreneurship, facilitate growth and financial independence of its prospective tenants.
To increase opportunities for job and wealth creation and ultimately contribute to the economic, social and physical transformation of east Port of Spain.

To develop entrepreneurial type businesses along a Business Incubator model, in which fledgling businesses are given an opportunity to benefit from skills training for a pre-determined period before moving out to co-exist among established businesses.
To create economic wealth and contribute to the economic, social and physical transformation of east Port of Spain.
Development Philosophy and Concept
Initially, East Side Plaza was developed as a Business Incubator, in which fledgling businesses were given an opportunity to benefit from entrepreneurial skills training for a pre-determined period of about five (5) years, before moving out to co-exist among established businesses.
The Plaza seeks to create a space for a mix of micro and traditional businesses so as to expand entrepreneurship, facilitate growth and financial independence, increase opportunities for job and wealth creation and ultimately contribute to the economic, social and physical transformation of east Port of Spain. In so doing it serves the interests of the residents of east Port of Spain which averages about 95,000 persons.
