180 Former PETROTRIN Employees selected for Residential Lots

On Tuesday August 08, 2023, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and its agency, the Land Settlement Agency (LSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, hosted a live televised draw for prospective recipients of residential lots. The event was broadcasted live at 10:35 a.m. on TTT and CCNTV6 from the Government Campus Auditorium, Richmond Street, Port-of-Spain. It was also streamed live on several social media platforms, and re-broadcasted on CNC3 at 3:30pm and 10:30pm.

At the live draw, one hundred and eighty (180) potential first-time home-owners were selected for residential lots located at Petit Morne, Ste Madeleine; Harmony Hall, Gasparillo; Springle Street, Point Fortin and Wellington Road, Debe. The draw was supervised by an independent external auditor to ensure transparency and accountability. A sample of the former PETROTRIN employees were also invited to witness the draw.

The LSA is responsible for the development and allocation of the residential lots. The serviceable lots are approximately 5,000 square feet, and will be leased to them for a period of 199 years, after statutory approvals are received.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will use its Aided Self-Help Housing approach for the benefit of the former PETROTRIN employees. As such, the Land Settlement Agency will offer house plans and technical assistance to the former employees, while the Trinidad and Tobago Mortgage Finance Company (TTMF) will offer subsidized loans for eligible applicants.

The Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis, Minister of Housing and Urban Development delivered the Feature Address, while the Honourable Stuart Young, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, delivered Remarks at the event.
