Minister Dillon Officially Opens Two New Play Parks in East Port of Spain and Promises More Across the Country

Residents of two Housing Development Corporation (HDC) communities in East Port of Spain were on hand to witness the official opening of two recreational spaces within their communities on Wednesday, March 13. These two recently opened play parks are located at Awai Lands, Belmont and Harpe Place, Observatory Street, Port of Spain and are seen as important building blocks for a synergised community.

Speaking about the importance of Play Parks, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Edmund Dillon stated that, “it is this Government’s firm belief that besides the obvious physical advantages of these playparks and recreational spaces, these are great spots for our children to make lasting connections- with their fellow peers, their parents and guardians, as well as the environment that will augur well for themselves, the community and the country as a whole.” The Minister then went on to declare that, “it is for this reason why over the next year, the HDC will continue to construct more play parks in its communities across the country.”

These two community Play Parks were made possible through the financial support of First Citizens Bank who teamed up with the HDC to make these recreational spaces a reality. The First Citizen’s Group CEO, Karen Darbasie was in attendance to witness the opening together with the Member of Parliament for Port of Spain North/St. Ann’s West, Stuart Young; Housing Development Corporation Chairman, Newman George and Managing Director, Brent Lyons.
