New City Mall and East Side Plaza gets new Board of Management

The Honourable Major General (Retired) Edmund Dillon, Minister of Housing and Urban Development presented Letters of Appointment to Members of the newly installed Board of Management for New City Mall and East Side Plaza at a ceremony held today at the Ministry’s Conference Room, South Quay, Port of Spain.

Mr. Olsen Oliver has been appointed as Chairman, while the other members of the Board include Mr. Anthony Ferguson, Mr. Wayne Griffith, Ms. Ann Marie Francis-Charles, Ms. Sharon Felix and Ms. Karen SampsonPeters. In congratulating the new members, the Honourable Minister commended them for volunteering and bringing their collective experiences to serve on the Board. He also told them that while the prospect may be challenging at times, nothing is insurmountable once it is dealt with collectively as a team. The Minister told them that from his own experience in the military, “sometimes the best decisions are born out of conflict and not necessarily consensus”.

They must always be guided by the principles of good governance and carry out their responsibilities with transparency, accountability and equity. Members should always strive to maintain the highest standards and ensure the best interests of those they serve, in keeping with Government policy.

Minister Dillon also reminded the members of the early origins of the New City Mall and East Side Plaza and urged the Chairman and the Board to work collaboratively to arrive at the best decisions for the continued development of these entities. These entities can provide the necessary impetus to create opportunities that will drive economic growth and wealth creation which is so important for the economic and social transformation of east Port of Spain.
